Netball Strength & Conditioning

The Warwick Workout Netball Strength and Conditioning Program has built a reputation for delivering quality training for teenage netballers. Our program is specifically designed for 11-17s year olds with a vision of long term athletic development.

The program started in 2017 having been approached by Hamersley Netball Club. Hamersley netball recognised that Saturday netball is traditionally a “train once a week and play once a week” sport but had a vision to change this culture to training twice a week; one on-court session and one off-court gym session. The Warwick Workout Netball Strength and Conditioning program is now open to all clubs.

The program is run during term time with 1 x 45 minute session per week with groups of 4 to 8. Sign up to the current term here.

The model accommodates individual needs within a group setting and is based off a movement competency model. Individuals progress to the next training level only when they can demonstrate proficiency in key movement patterns, including: push, pull, landing mechanics, hip hinge, squat, single leg work, bracing. Athletes aren’t introduced to loading unless they can demonstrate good movement mechanics.

We encourage athletes to sign up to all four terms as the emphasis is on progressing through the four levels of training at their own speed.

The strength and conditioning (S&C) program led by Dr Laurence Houghton (PhD Sports Science, Australian S&C association Level 2 Professional Coach) improves athletic performance and reduces the likelihood of injury. The program is netball specific, and based on resources published by Netball Australia, including the KNEE program and ‘Develop a Diamond’ core competencies.

“The quality of the strength and conditioning program Warwick Workout is delivering is exceptional. The small class sizes, variety in sessions times available, and the knowledge of the trainers means the members are loving the program. Also the gains the athletes are making in the gym and translating to the netball court on a Saturday.

I would highly recommend other grassroots sporting clubs to get involved with Warwick Workout. Hamersley have members as young as 11 years benefiting from age appropriate strength and conditioning training.”
